I wanted to do a blog post on beauty and wellness. Kind of like my little regimen in LA and the places I go for my own personal upkeep, to grab a smoothie, supplements I take etc…

FACE
Monthly Facials.
Everyone asks me what I do when it comes to my skin. TONS of H2O every day, SPF 30 or higher every day on my face, neck and hands. Monthly facials!!!! Very important. I started doing monthly facials about two or three years ago and it’s changed my life. Until a month ago I just relied solemnly on Ruth’s Skin Care on Melrose ave. It’s not super fancy or over the top. A base level facial including a face massage with vitamin C & E, steam, lactic acid, collagen, buttermilk thermal mask, extractions, and hi-frequency therapy. If you think about it, we’re outside walking around in pollution every day. Grime gets on your face and you need all that dead skin and dirt scraped off every month by a professional. Two months ago I saw Biba, another facialist who sees clients at her own office in Beverly Hills. I’m going to start rotating a facial in from her every other month to keep up with more invasive things, lines, aging etc… Her facials are triple the price of Ruth’s, but it makes sense when you’re nearing 30 and seeing more lines, or if you have severe skin issues, to see someone with all the high tech machines and skin technologies. She’s great and she actually drained my capillaries which was causing my skin redness. I would recommend both facials in LA. Both places pretty much charge you a flat fee and customize what your skin needs and wants.

The Brow Queen.
Helena Tamargo, whom I’ve been going to for over 5 years now for my brows just opened her own little setup within a salon on Robertson Blvd. She uses all organic products and Helena is all about the thick, full, brow. I get a wax and tint every three weeks or so. You can find her online to make an appointment.

Hair. (I know I said face but I had to throw this in there)
I’ve been seeing Chase at IGK in LA for about five years now. The way Chase touches my hair is unlike anyone else. He just gets it. TRUE TALENT! You can find Chase on instagram. He’s constantly switching locations of his salon since it’s just him, Mel (his right hand), and one other stylist.

Injections.
I see Dr. Sarshad in Culver City for any sort of facial injections. Literally every single one of my friends, who you probably would recognize from my insta or from following them, goes here, haha… He’s the shit. He would never put too much of anything in your face or make you leave looking crazy. His prices are pretty reasonable too. Just got Botox in my forehead from him for the first time ever and I had major lines. Now they’re all gone. I don’t know if I’ll do it again because I honestly kind of miss moving my forehead, although my lines could come back and I could feel completely different, but he did a great job.

FITNESS
Hot Yoga.
I’m really big on Hot Yoga. I hate trying new workouts. It takes me forever to learn something new work out wise and to understand how to work my muscles so I don’t like to switch it up. I like to find something I’m good at and the teachers I like and stick to it. Everyone is different and if this works for you, I think its solid. I go to Modo Yoga on La Brea and I take classes from Dalton and Chip. I also go to Urban Exhale and take classes from Joe K. and Talia (both used to be at Modo). Urban Exhale is smaller and a little more fancy than Modo, but I like the huge classes at Modo sometimes, it gets me in the zone. They’re both great for practicing Hot Yoga. I go anywhere from 3-5 times a week. I only take those four teachers, because I don’t like being touched during class by teachers I don’t know or anyone who annoys me.

Hiking.
I hike all the trails at Runyon Canyon normally the harder ones. I do this about twice a week, just to add a little hike and some outdoor time to my workouts. The hardest hike at Runyon takes around 1 hour and a half.

INSIDE YOUR BODY
Smoothies.
It’s overwhelming in LA, there’s so many options. Here are my favorite go-to’s in LA
Beverly Hills Juice Co.– Green Genie Smoothie (the OG spot, literally one of the first or the first smoothie joints in LA)
Erewhon– Strawberry probiotic smoothie with no stevia, P-Nut butter blast, Green soda, Energy Elixir
Clover– (right next to Modo Yoga which is convenient) Maca me nuts w/whey
Kombucha from anywhere (I drink a ton all diff. brands and kinds)

Supplements.
Jarrow’s Fem Dophilus (probiotic)
I am very sensitive to yeast infections and other infections so taking a women’s probiotic is very important, daily. I just started taking the one I’ll list below and so far I love it. Just got it at Erewhon, but there’s tons of other good ones out there! I love the one by Lo Bosworth too, called “Love Wellness”.

Vitamin C Gummies (take redness away in face from hot yoga)

He Should Wu (hair)

Reserveage, Collagen Replenish Powder
(no taste, mix it with your drink and it builds up your collagen)

Oil of Oregano.
Helps fight off germs inside your body when you feel like you’re getting sick, this literally kills everything that will make you sick. I take mine in the form of drops when I feel like I’m getting sick or start to get sick.
Activated Charcoal (teeth whitening, digestive problems, also detoxifying)

MASSAGE
In Thai Spa– $50 Thai massage. They know whats up! This is a hardcore Thai massage, just a warning.
Sunset Tower Hotel– Really solid massage.

DIET
People ask me what my diet is all the time. I don’t really have a particular diet. I just don’t eat like shit, but I also don’t put crazy restrictions on my diet. If I want some ice-cream I eat it. If I want pasta, I eat it. The next day I’ll probably have grilled chicken and rice or something but I don’t go on any crazy diets. I just do portion control but I eat more throughout the day. I never take down a whole plate of food thats overflowing in one sitting. I eat a lot when I eat dinner I just try and not finish off the whole bread basket. If I’m getting pasta I don’t get the pizza too. If I’m having a fried chicken sammy I’ll eat half the break. When I was in high school I was 30 lb’s heavier because I literally ate everything any anything I wanted. I had pizza 3 nights a week if I wanted, and I took down a whole pizza to myself. Where I’m from in Pittsburgh, PA there’s no fancy health food shops, or at least there wasn’t when I was in high school. People didn’t care about it. I ate like shit and I had unhealthy fast food weight on me growing up. Now I just watch what I eat, try and only eat organic and portion control. Kreation cafe and Erewhon Market are both good healthy options in LA.

I do eat way too much sugar but whatever I’ll figure it out later…. haha…..

CANNABIS

CBD.
First I’m going to start off by explaining in a few sentences what CBD is… CBD is a compound in cannabis that has all the medical benefits but does not make people who smoke it or take it in any other form feel stoned. Straight CBD actually counters the effects of feeling high from smoking weed, for example, if you smoke straight weed and get too high, you can smoke CBD to take the high away. CBD can be smoked, or taken orally in liquid form.

Positive effects of CBD.
CBD helps with inflammation, anxiety, anti nausea, helps fight cancer, helps with insomnia, it’s an appetite booster, and DOES NOT MAKE YOU FEEL HIGH.

Why do I take CBD?
I take my CBD in liquid form, and I also smoke straight CBD (Hmbdlt has one of these). I take it when I have my period or when I feel sick to help with nausea or inflammation.

Marijuana/THC
Or what you may know as, weed. I smoke actual weed from a joint, I also eat edibles, and smoke the Pax, but I just started smoking these vape pens by a brand called Hmbldt. I smoke to help my appetite, anxiety (smoking is way better than Xanax which I used to take ALL the time and don’t really take as much any more), helps with my cramps HARD CORE (I smoke really strong weed in joint form when I have cramps, my cramps used to be so bad I would vomit and be out of commission in bed for two days), insomnia, and socially because it’s better than getting wasted and ruining your liver (just my own personal opinion). Okay, back to the Hmbdlt, this brand just came out with different vape pens that are meant to replace pills, and they all do different things. One is just CBD, doesn’t get you high, called “Calm”, another one I LOVE is called “Bliss” which has THC and will make you feel a little high, but great for anxiety and cramps etc… The pens are $100 and have about 200-300 hits and dose you out with a little vibration on your mouth. That way you can decipher how many hits of the vibration you need to achieve desirable results.

There are so many different strains of weed today, that do different things, and weed isn’t at all what you may remember it to be in high school, if you’re 30 years old like me. It’s all fancy now and meant to tackle certain feelings. I normally smoke a hybrid on the regular, Sativa which is more of an upper- if I have a full day to tackle ahead of me, and an Indica if I’m trying to go to bed or am in MAJOR pain with cramps from my period. Another side note, if you’re buying CBD over the counter without a medicinal marijuana card from possibly a state where it’s not legal, make sure you do some extensive research, because potentially you could be buying something that isn’t LEGIT, or barely doing anything to you. The good shit comes from places that you need to have the card or where weed is legal.
